Angelica man killed in wrong-way accident on Interstate 86

This is the second deadly wrong-way accident on the Southern Tier Expressway in less than two weeks

Almond, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York State Police is investigating a wrong-way accident on Interstate 86 on Wednesday that killed a man from Angelica.

According to State Police, Troopers responded to a vehicle collision on the I-86 Westbound at around 9:43 p.m. EST in the Town of Almond. It has been determined that 62-year-old Donald Rose was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram Eastbound in the Westbound lane when he struck a 2021 Ford tractor trailer head-on. Rose was pronounced deceased at the scene.


The operator of the Ford was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by Mercy Flight for injuries.

This is the second wrong-way accident to take place on the Southern Tier Expressway in less than two weeks. The first incident took place on Saturday, Jan. 28 when two people were killed in a wrong-way accident in the Town of Ellicott.
