Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - As cleanup and recovery from Hurricane Helene continue, there's a call from a Bills Backers chapter in the affected area. "Bills Mafia" has been well-known for helping those in need in the past.
"We love each other, and the 'Bills Mafia' is an expression from Western New York," said Del Reid of 26 Shirts in an interview with WBEN.
When there's a need, whether it's for fellow Bills fans or anything related to the team or his opponents - really anything at all - "Bills Mafia" comes through. Reid says that's just who Buffalonians are, no matter if you live in the area or not.
With the advent of social media, now there's a new outlet for that, giving Western New York spirit to be expressed on a national level to national needs.
"Something terrible happens, those fans give. Somebody makes fun of Buffalo or makes fun of the Bills, or, in one case, made fun of me personally, Bills fans give. It's something I'm tremendously proud of. We should all be proud of, just how we represent ourselves," Reid said.
The Asheville Bills Backers have sent out appeals for help. Reid says he has not heard about response to this point, but he's sharing the message.
"Every time I've seen it, whether it's an Instagram post and I'm sharing to my story or on Twitter," he said.
Reid believes any help that can be given to Bills fans or anybody living in an affected area of Hurricane Helene is important.
"We should be stepping up to the plate and doing what we can to support them," Reid said.
