Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A pivotal night for President Joe Biden offered something for both sides.

Republican Strategist and WBEN Contributor Carl Calabrese put it this way to WBEN. "People who want to see him remain in the race, saw things that gave them hope. Those who think his time has passed, saw things to reinforce that."

In Calabrese's words, "He put a tourniquet on a seriously bleeding wound. But the wound is far from healed."

Jack O'Donnell of O'Donnell and Associates largely agrees. "If you had doubts, they weren't put to rest. But if you were happy with Biden, like a lot of the Democratic Party is, then you saw enough there to say he should keep going."

During the hour long news conference, Biden had some slip ups, but Calabrese noted two other behaviors. "He returned to whispering when he wants to make a point." Something that the strategist found to be creepy. Also, he thought Biden lost his train of thought a lot and used the word "anyway" to cover for it.

The question now is, when is the next shoe going to drop? If at all. The president sayid unless someone
convinces him that he can't win, he's staying in.

Calabrese said the clock, meanwhile, is ticking toward the convention. And if Democrats are going to make a change, it will probably have to be in the next week. He doesn't see that happening right now.

"He's got the major leadership groups in the Democratic Party. He's got the Majority Leader in the Senate. He's got the Minority Leader in the House. He still has the strong support of the Black Caucus. Until that starts to strip away, he's in a position where he's going to the convention. And the last thing that party elders want is a floor fight at the convention.

O'Donnell does not think the Democrats are any closer to a resolution. "We're a day closer to the election and everyday that Joe Biden is still there, makes it harder for him to go."
