Wales, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Erie County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a multi-vehicle crash on Route 20A in Wales that happened Monday afternoon during rush hour.
Deputies say at the time of the crash there were near whiteout conditions with heavy snow. The crash consisted of 10 motor vehicles, with 18 total people involved in the incident.
During the course of the incident, people began to exit their vehicles and leave the roadway due to the amount of oncoming traffic continually striking the vehicles already involved in the accident. They say a 12-year-old boy who was traveling with his family, was struck by a vehicle. The child suffered serious injuries and was taken by Wales Center Fire to Oishei Children's Hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
All other patients of the crash were treated for various minor injuries by Wales Center Fire.
