BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Kayakers, fishers, and anyone looking to enjoy the view along the Buffalo River now have a new location to take in the scenery.
Buffalo Blueway's latest location along Ohio Street held its grand opening on Tuesday afternoon. Officially, it is called the Ohio Street Fishing Access Site.
The $2 million project includes a car-top boat launch and fishing along the pier which is ADA compliant. There is also a bat houses with the Batman logo to help control pests in the area, such as mosquitoes.
"Decades of work went into restoring this river," "We've always had a vision that it's not just about restoring the health and ecosystems of this river but to also make it a desirable and aesthetically pleasing access point to the river for our community. Water is neither red nor blue. It's either clean or it's dirty. It's either accessible or it's not. Our work breaks down those barriers. Our work is intended to improve the health our environment, improve the health of our local economy, and make these places thriving for the people who call this place home."
Funding for the $2 million project came, in part, from the Buffalo Billion. Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper intends to focus next on improvements at Red Jacket Riverfront Natural Habitat Park. The organization is also in the design phase with Seneca Bluffs. Construction on Seneca Bluffs should start next year.
The park is open from dawn until dusk.
