Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - After historic rain flooded parts of North Buffalo, many residents are left cleaning up Friday morning.

City officials told WBEN that they will be working through the holiday weekend to help residents in the clean up process, specifically those with basements in North Buffalo.

"To help those folks out we are doing an emergency trash pickup of destroyed items Monday, Labor Day," said Deputy Mayor Ben Swanekamp. "Crews will be picking those up. We'll be going around the flooded zone that we know from the weather service."

Swanekamp added that people with damaged items for pickup should call 311 so the City can make an accurate map of where to go on Monday.

It was a busy Thursday evening for Buffalo Fire crews. Swanekamp said some rescues had to be made of cars stuck in the high water, and some sewer manhole covers were blown off because of high water pressure.

The city is still assessing any additional structural damage.
