Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - In the aftermath of this week's ice storm that hit parts of central Erie County particularly hard, one Buffalo lawmaker is pointing a finger at the city administration and Department of Public Works and calling for action to address dangerous icy conditions.
North District Council Member Joseph Golombek is expressing his frustration with the icy road conditions on side streets in the district.
"This is unacceptable," Golombek said in a statement released late Friday, two days after the storm moved across the region. "The residents of the North District are rightfully frustrated with the City's lack of action on this issue. "We are on day 2 of the since the storm, and the roads are in terrible shape. People are at risk of falling, and drivers are at risk of losing control of their vehicles while driving.
Golombek says he has fielded numerous calls from residents and property owners in the district and he is calling on officials in the city to immediately address the situation by prioritizing plowing and salting.
In the aftermath of the Buffalo blizzard in December, Golombek was vocal in calling for wholesale changes in how the city handles snow emergencies.
In the aftermath of the ice storm this week, icy conditions have been to blame for numerous accidents and falls in Buffalo and across a much wider area of central Erie County.
After a frigid day Saturday, temperatures will moderate above freezing Sunday for a time, allowing some melting to occur.
