Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - On Wednesday, the Buffalo Public Schools Board of Education held a meeting discussing multiple topics as the 2024-25 school year is about to wrap up.
One of the main topics that was brought up during the school board meeting was the hiring of a new Special Independent Investigator to review allegations of sexual assault and abuse that were made on a podcast. The board voted unanimously to hire Rupp Pfalzgraf LLC to help the school board after Buffalo police detective Richard Hy previously accused BPS officials of covering up abuse allegations and obstructing police investigations.
In a statement to WBEN, the Board of Education said:
"The Special Independent Investigator will have full authority to review all relevant information and conduct interviews as needed."
Pfalzgraf will conduct a "fair, equitable, and thorough" investigation of the allegations that were raised on the podcast back on April 26.
"As the safety and security of our students and staff remain a top priority, it's important to stress that the Buffalo Public Schools maintains a close and professional relationship with the Buffalo Police," the board said. "While the Board of Education will share the findings of the investigation publicly, we will not be commenting further until the Special Independent Investigator has completed their work."
