Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - WBEN has obtained a police report from the Buffalo Police Department detailing an incident that happened late Tuesday night involving embattled former Erie County Sheriff's Narcotics Chief D.J. Granville.
According to police documents, officials found an abandoned Tesla parked in Niagara Square that was tied to a property damage crash. Inside the vehicle, police discovered a backpack with a loaded Glock pistol, along with a work ID and a badge.
Police believe the gun belongs to Granville, who has been charged with first-degree failure to safely store a firearm. The bag, gun, prescription meds, a wallet, cell phone and radio were taken by police as evidence.
The report adds a federal court officer made a call to 9-1-1 about the incident, saying a white male wearing a dark blue jacket, light blue shirt and tan pants got out of the vehicle and began walking away towards a silver or light blue sedan.
Officers then attempted to make contact with the individual connected to the property recovered in the vehicle, but were unsuccessful.
It's not known who was driving the vehicle, though the car is registered under Buffalo Biodiesel, the company Granville took a job with after retiring from the Sheriff's Office back in late March.
Granville was the center of a months long investigation in which he eventually pled guilty to crashing a county-owned vehicle into several parked cars in the city's West Side neighborhood.
