Buffalo School Board President defends board appointment
WBEN

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The president of the Buffalo school board issued a statement Tuesday saying the board did not defy the state education commissioner by filling a vacancy on the board Monday.

Dr. Kathy Evans-Brown said she spoke with the commissioner prior to the meeting and came away from the conversation understanding that the board could proceed.

Roscoe Henderson received 5 votes with 3 members abstaining.

Board member Larry Scott told WBEN he did not feel it was prudent to proceed with the vote after the commissioner requested a pause due to current turmoil on the board with the resignation of the superintendent and allegations of sexual misconduct against another board member.

Henderson will be sworn in this afternoon
