Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - The Buffalo Public School District is announcing new safety measures in wake of the recent mass shooting events, including Tuesday at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
In a statement released Wednesday, the district said that anyone who wants to enter a school building must call ahead and get prior approval, including parents, caregivers, siblings and vendors.
The Buffalo Police Department or security staff will have a presence in and around schools for the foreseeable future, and visitors may be searched upon arrival. In addition, doors at every school will remain locked and camera monitors are at school entrances.
End of the year ceremonies are scheduled to be held with all extra safety protocols in place.
