Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A new partnership is set to bring a flurry of filming activity to Buffalo.
Great American Media, which produces content for the Great American Family Network, will produce over 20 movies and series at Great Point Studios on Niagara Street in Buffalo over the next two years.
Great Point Studios also operates facilities in Yonkers, Atlanta, and overseas in Wales, but this agreement is centered on Buffalo with promises of employment opportunities across casting, crew, and creative roles here.
The first film under the agreement, A Christmas Spark starring Mario Lopez, was filmed earlier this year, and production for the next project is already underway.
"The Great American Family Channel has declared that they want to make their movies in the United States," said Buffalo Niagara Film Commissioner Tim Clark. "So much of this was done overseas... and they really wanted to find a home, and I think they found it here in Western New York."
Clark points to New York's film tax credits, which increase in Western New York, as a key reason the work will happen here.
The partnership is not a surprise to industry insiders who note that Great Point Studios CEO Robert Halmi founded the Hallmark Channel, where Great American Media founder Bill Abbott served as president for 11 years.
