Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - For the second straight year, Buffalo's Italian Festival has been canceled due to the pandemic.
Organizers say it was a difficult decision to cancel, but important to ensure the health and safety of their visitors. The festival is usually held in July.
Spokesman Mark Sciortino recently told our Mike Baggerman, "Planning and sponsoring an event the size of this nature, has been virtually impossible going into this season. There's always changing guidelines, there's always different instructions coming out of the CDC, the government, the health department, whatever it may be."
Attention is already shifting to 2022. "We are already looking ahead to assemble a great event to celebrate our heritage next year!" said Judy Porto-Fiorella, Board Vice President, and President of the Hertel Business Association.
The festival moved to Niagara Square, downtown, in 2019.
