Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo was again part of history New Year's Eve as Byron Brown was sworn-in to a historic fifth term as mayor of Buffalo.
Brown was surrounded by his wife, Michelle, and son, Byron as he was sworn in for a fifth four-year term following an unprecedented write-in campaign victory in November of 2021, making him the longest-serving Mayor in Buffalo's history.
Shortly after taking the oath of office, Brown delivered a brief address, stating, "I stand before you today at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site on Delaware Avenue in Downtown Buffalo, where 120 years ago, President Roosevelt took his oath of office. And I stand before you today, thankful for the confidence and significant support the voters of the City have again placed in me as Mayor of Buffalo."
"The people have spoken, across every community in Buffalo, and by doing so, made today even more historic and significant," Brown said in his address. "As I continue my service as the 62nd Mayor of the City of Buffalo, I will serve with the recognition that the people chose four more years of diversity, opportunity, and inclusion for all."
Buffalo City Court Judge Craig D. Hannah administered the oath of office and Reverend William Gillison, Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, delivered the opening prayer for the swearing-in.
