Buffalo, NY (WBEN) As the Southtowns dig out from several feet of lake effect snow, some are wondering if such storms can effect home sales.
Some realtors tell WBEN it depends on what the homebuyer wants.
Technology won't affect the home buying process, says realtor Susie Lenahan. "During the pandemic, we sold so many houses online, that our technology is good enough that we're able to do that," explains Lenahan.
Lenahan says home selection isn't affected by snowstorms, as people have different preferences about snow. "If you're a skier you want to be in the Southtowns and be close to Colden and Boston and for some people, that's fine. Others say they prefer the Northtowns with less," adds Lenahan. She says it's Buffalo and people are used to snowstorms.
Rosalind Bergin, president-elect of the Buffalo Niagara Association of Realtors, agrees. "We're used to weather issues, so there are people who choose not to live in the Southtowns just like there are people in the Southtowns (who)choose not to be in the northern end of the county," says Burgin.
Burgin says snowstorms also don't affect property values. "We're used to winters. So I don't think the weather has a huge effect on our our prices as far as...dropping and making lower values," explains Burgin.
Burgin says weather is not a deterrent for many choosing where to buy a home.
