Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Canadian government announced Wednesday that border restrictions to enter the country will remain in place until, at least, Sept. 30.

That means proof of vaccination will still be required to enter the country, and all travelers have to upload their vaccine information and other travel documents to the ArriveCAN app.

"Bad. Bad. There's nothing good about this," Congressman Brian Higgins told WBEN on Thursday. "It's redundant, it's excessive, and it's hurting the economy in Western New York and Southern Ontario."

Higgins pointed to 70,000 fewer vehicles crossing the border from the U.S. into Canada at the Peace Bridge in May of 2022, compared to 2019 as an example that the border restrictions that remain are too much of a burden.

The restrictions are not just for Americans, as unvaccinated Canadians will still need to provide a COVID-19 test taken prior to entering their home country and quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
