Royalton, N.Y. (WBEN) - A driver was hospitalized Monday afternoon after rear-ending a school bus in the Town of Royalton in Niagara County.
The crash happened at around 3:50 p.m. in the 8200 block of Akron Road.
An early investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office found a 2012 Mini Cooper was heading south on Akron Road when it struck the bus, lodging the vehicle underneath the school bus. First responders had to extract the 32-year-old driver from the vehicle.
Seven children were on the bus. All were examined by paramedics and released at the scene.
The driver of the Mini Cooper, a man from Lockport, was taken to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight with non-life threatening injuries. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says traffic violation charges are pending.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
