BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Customs and Border Protection are expecting longer wait times at the land borders ahead of the November 8 reopening.

Officials are urging those who plan to travel into the United States to have the proper documentation, including proof of vaccination, as they enter the country.

“During inspection, travelers will verbally attest to their travel intent and COVID-19 vaccine status,” Matthew Davies, Executive Director of CBP’s Admissibility and Passenger Programs, said. “Travelers should be prepared to present their travel document and any other documents requested by a CBP officer.”

All FDA approved vaccines and those with emergency use approval by the World Health Organization will be allowed for those entering the country. Despite children being eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine, a vaccine is not required for any traveler under the age of 18 who is coming into the country so long as they are traveling with a fully vaccinated adult.

A negative test is not required to cross the border into the US.

CBP officials said staffing levels are back to pre-pandemic levels.

“Border security remains our number one priority,” Davies said. “We will continue to protect the American people from illicit activity while supporting our country’s economic rebound from the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”
