Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Erie County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday morning the arraignment of 22-year-old Angel Gonzalez-Rondon of Cheektowaga, who's accused of killing a man and leading police on a pursuit just hours later.
Gonzalez-Rondon is accused of shooting and killing a 21-year-old male on the 200 block of Walden Avenue near St. Louis Avenue in Buffalo. Police responded to the scene of the shooting around 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 6.
Just hours later, around 12:52 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, Gonzalez-Rondon led Buffalo Police on a pursuit after fleeing an attempted traffic stop. Officers spotted Gonzalez-Rondon driving near Broadway and Bailey in Buffalo when they made the initial attempt to pull him over.
Gonzalez-Rondon was arrested after stopping his vehicle on Harlem Road in West Seneca where he tried running from police.
Police say Gonzalez-Rondon was driving an unregistered vehicle without insurance or a driver's license. He was also speeding, failed to signal and didn't use headlights. Gonzalez-Rondon also ignored a red light during the pursuit.
In connection to the shooting, Gonzalez-Rondon has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Second Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
Relating to the police pursuit, Gonzalez-Rondon faces a multitude of driving offenses including Second Degree Reckless Endangerment, Third Degree Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Third Degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Reckless Driving.
Gonzalez-Rondon faces 25 years to life in prison. He was arraigned Wednesday.
