Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Just one day after an EF-1 tornado tore through the Lower West Side neighborhood, the City of Buffalo remains positive as it celebrated the 41st National Night Out.
The event, which was hosted at the Martha Mitchell Community Center, was created to promote safer neighborhoods and stronger community relationships with police agencies.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, who helped kick off the event, expressed his gratitude for everyone making it out to the event and having a good time, despite the rain.
"What this is all about, is bringing the community together and strengthening the partnership between the community and our law enforcement," Brown stated at the event. "That is what we are doing tonight. Rain or shine, it doesn't stop us in the City of Buffalo."
Buffalo Police Commissioner Joe Gramaglia says this is the one most important community building events of the year in Buffalo, and he's happy to be a part of it.
"This is basically the Super Bowl of community relations. Tomorrow, we go back at it. Every day, what we do throughout the year in our community relations," Gramaglia stated. "We do events at the district houses. We participate in events all year until we come back next year again and hit that Super Bowl of community relations."
