Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - An incarcerated man at the Erie County Holding Center (ECHC) faces additional charges after personnel found contraband in his unit.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office says 31-year-old Michael Escabi of Buffalo has been arrested following a search of his unit found him to be in possession of marijuana.

The investigation revealed that on Feb. 17, ECHC personnel were conducting a supervisory tour of the Echo North Housing area when the odor of marijuana was detected near Unit No. 95. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit was alerted when ECHC entered the unit and observed a facility issued blanket wedged under the housing unit door.

Contact was made with Escabi, and the contraband was confiscated.

Escabi has been charged with Possession of Dangerous Contraband in Prison in the First Degree (Class "D" felony).

Escabi remains in custody at the ECHC pending his arraignment in Buffalo City Court.
