Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - If there is one word that describes the administrative inner circle that Buffalo Mayor-elect Sean Ryan is assembling, it is diversity.
"I want an administration that looks like the City of Buffalo," Ryan said.
The same diversity that Ryan selected with his four deputy mayor candidates, the mayor-elect followed that same path in naming his first four high level commissioners.
Named: Daniel Pizarro, Buffalo Fire Department commissioner; Rosa Pizzi as corporation counsel; Danielle Roberts as Community Services commissioner; and Nolan Skipper as Public Works commissioner.
"Their background is diverse, but the one common thread is that they are proven problem solvers," Ryan said.
Pizarro is a 14-year fire department veteran and currently a battalion chief while Pizzi is a partner at Phillips Lytle and comes with a strong background in handling complex financial and business issues.
Roberts, vice president of community impact at the YMCA Buffalo Niagara, has worked at the YMCA's William-Emslie, Ken-Ton and Delaware Avenue branches while Skipper, who has been acting public works commissioner since early summer also has private sector experience.
"What helps is that they have 'boots-on-the-ground' experience," Ryan said.
All of Ryan's four deputy mayors and now, named commissioners, will be meeting with individual Buffalo Common Council members in the coming weeks, with the expectation that all of Ryan's appointees will be approved by Dec. 30, less than 48 hours before Ryan is inaugurated.
"We need to hit the ground running," Ryan said.
