Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty for his role in a fatal hit-and-run that took place back in November near Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
33-year-old Khairullah Hasein pleaded guilty before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case back on Tuesday, Feb. 6 to the highest sustainable charge, which is one count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Resulting in Death (Class "D" felony).
It was back on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023 at approximately 8:19 p.m. EST when members of the Orchard Park Police Department and the Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an injured pedestrian on Southwestern Boulevard near Stadium Drive. This just before kickoff of a "Monday Night Football" game between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos.
The victim, 65-year-old William Young of Rochester, was taken by Orchard Park EMS ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where he died from the injuries.
The defendant's vehicle was later found with front-end damage on Mills Street in the City of Buffalo. The defendant, who was working as a delivery driver at the time of the incident, hit the pedestrian with his vehicle and drove away from the scene without reporting the incident to police.
Hasein faces up to seven years in prison when he is sentenced on Thursday, April 25 at 9:30 a.m. EST. He was released on bail set at $10,000 cash or bond.
