Batavia, N.Y. (WBEN) - The driver of the tour bus that crashed last year on the New York State Thruway, claiming five lives, has been sentenced to six months in prison.
56-year-old Bin Shao will also serve five years probation.
Shao admitted to being distracted behind the wheel of the tour bus carrying 54 people on board on its way back to New York City from Niagara Falls.
A total of five people died in the crash on Aug. 22, while many of the passengers on the tour bus were sent to local area hospitals to further treatment and evaluation.
Shao has already served seven months in prison, which is longer than the six-month sentence handed down Wednesday.
