Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Erie County health officials will hold a teen vaccine clinic Saturday. It will be held at three locations from 9am to 3pm.
Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein says Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be available for teens ages 16 and 17; Moderna COVID-19 doses will be available for anyone age 18 and older. Sites will be SUNY ECC North in Williamsville, SUNY ECC South in Orchard Park, and McKinley High School in Buffalo.
"We reached out to local pharmacies and New York State Department of Health after initially hearing that local health departments would not receive more Pfizer vaccine until early May," says Burstein. "Each vaccinated person gets us one step close to the end of this pandemic, and with 16- and 17-year-olds eligible for Pfizer vaccine, we are very eager to coordinate these special PODs for these teenagers and their families."
Burstein says the health department will communicate Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine availability to school districts and private schools at scheduled ECDOH clinics, adding if additional Pfizer COVID-19 is available, it will consider planning PODs at school locations. Parental consent forms for 16- and 17-year-olds will be available before May 1 electronically and on site at ECDOH clinics.
