Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon has ordered emergency action to be taken at 2 St. Louis Place, an abandoned Allentown building that's been a cause for concern for residents.
A private contractor will remove a 3-story porch at the back of the building and seal other access points. The city also plans to remove overgrowth on the front of the structure. The city says the building has had a continued trespassing problem that's been a "nuisance for neighbors."
The Democrat's endorsed candidate for Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan responded to the order, criticizing the city for waiting so long to address the troublesome building.
“For years, residents of Allentown have been raising concerns about 2 St. Louis Place, and for years, the city ignored them. It shouldn’t take relentless community advocacy, media reports, and a tragic loss to convince city leaders to act," says Ryan.
Buffalo Police arrested a trespasser at 2 St. Louis Place on the evening of March 12th of this year. That arrest came after police increased patrols of the area following the murder of two prominent Allentown artists that lived on St. Louis Place.
