Grand Island, NY (WBEN) - Fantasy Island could be making a comeback as soon as this year.
The park, which closed in 2019, is now under the control of Chicago investor Gene Staples, who is CEO of IB Parks and Entertainment.
"He has stepped forward and taken over Fantasy Island, the lease was finalized," said Grand Island Town Supervisor John Whitney. "He's in the process now of obtaining contractors to do the remedial work that needs to be done to get the park back in shape and make it viable again."
While the current plan is for the park to open in the Spring of 2022, Whitney said there is some hope that the water park can be open by the end of this summer.
