Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A father and two daughters were killed in an early Independence Day fire at 194 Huntington Avenue in Buffalo.
The 3 deceased are 53 year Dr. Jonathan Daniels and his daughters, 23 year old Jensen Daniels and Jordan Daniels, 27 years old.
The 53 year old mother, Janessa Daniels, was rescued from the home and transported to ECMC and is expected to recover.
The two alarm fire was reported by a neighbor of the home near Shoshone Park at around 3:30am.
The cause of the fire remains under invesitgation.
Fire officials say a dog perished in the fire.
Five firefighters were injured and transported to ECMC with various injuries and they have been treated and released.
Damage is estimated at $230,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. According to fire investigators, fireworks is not believed to be a factor at this time.
Exposure damage occurred at 200 Huntington Avenue resulting in $55,000 damage.
Dr. Daniels served as associate director of admissions at the University of Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
"As a university community, our collective hearts are broken with the devastating tragedy that claimed the life of beloved faculty member, Dr. Daniels and his two cherished daughters, one of whom is an alumna," said UB President Satish K. Tripathi. "Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with Janessa as we pray for her full recovery."
Janessa Givens Daniels serves as UB's senior associate director of financial aid.
