Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) Former Erie County DA John Flynn tells WBEN he's interested in filling the vacancy of Town of Tonawanda Supervisor when Joe Emminger leaves office next month.

Flynn says he has a long history with the town. "My very first elective office was in 2003 being elected as the town councilman here in Tonawanda. It was an honor to serve on the town board in Tonawanda. I then became the town judge and then the town attorney," says Flynn. He says his love for the town is the reason he's throwing his hat into the ring. "I want to have the experience that I had in raising my five children here in Tonawanda. I want to help other families raise their children here in kind of one day. That's why I want to get back in this I want to this community is great," adds Flynn.

As the town board chooses the successor for the remainder of this year, Flynn says he has just returned to town and has not had a chance to speak with board members. But he says he has spoken with the town's Democratic chairman Joe Crangle about being the candidate in November for the 2027 portion of Emminger's term. "Whoever wins this November would serve for just one year, and then the regular election would be next year. So whoever is nominated or appointed would have to run two years in a row, and I'm aware of that, and I'm okay with that, " notes Flynn.

Emminger announced Wednesday he would step down as supervisor in May.
