There are political rumblings that a high profile Democrat is being courted for the Supervisor vacancy in the Town of Tonawanda to succeed Joe Emminger, who is stepping aside.
Republican Strategist and WBEN Contributor Carl Calabrese, who is a former Supervisor in the town, remains well connected to town politics.
"I'm hearing that Town Democrats are working on convincing former Erie County District Attorney, and former Town Councilman and Town Justice John Flynn to leave the private sector and come back and be supervisor. If that happens, it would be a blockbuster announcement," he said.
Flynn stepped down as DA two years ago and joined the law firm Lippes, Mattias LLP to lead their Lobbying and Public Policy team.
Calabrese added that he knows Flynn well and thinks he would be an "A" list candidate.
"I mean this in a very complimentary way. John is a political animal. I also describe myself that way. He loves the political process. He's good at it. If town Democrats can convince him, to lead the private sector, he is a proven vote getter."
Joe Emminger said he plans to step down in May. That means town Democrats will have to move quickly to name his successor sometime next month.
Another name being mentioned is Deputy Tonawanda Supervisor Gina Santa Maria.
