Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Buffalo man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for killing two women nearly two decades apart.

62-year-old Richard Fox was sentenced to 40 years-to-life after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder.

Fox first killed Cassandra Watson between on or about 2003 and 2004 in the City of Buffalo. He then dumped her body in the Town of Portland in Chautauqua County. Prosecutors determined Fox was in a relationship with Watson.

Then in 2021, Fox killed 50-year-old Marquita Mull, who was later reported missing by her family.

In September 2021, both bodies were found a day apart in Portland by a hiker along a trail. Watson's body was found first, then Mull's remains were discovered during excavation efforts.

Fox pleaded guilty to the two counts of Murder in the Second Degree back on Sept. 19 of this year.

"The families of Cassandra Watson and Marquita Mull have waited a long time for justice. I hope that they can continue their journey towards healing with the knowledge that this defendant will spend the rest of his life in prison for these crimes," said Erie County District Attorney Mike Keane in a statement. "The successful prosecution of this case is the result of years of tireless work and excellent collaboration among the lead investigators, several law enforcement agencies, forensic analysists, genealogy experts, our prosecutors and many others. I thank you all for your dedicated service."
