Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - One-in-eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. But with early detection, 90% of these cancers will be cured.
On Monday, Nov. 7, the Roswell Park Cancer Center will host a complete prostate cancer screening event at no cost to you at the KeyBank Center from 3-7 p.m. EST with free parking available at the KeyBank Center ramp.
"Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers diagnosed in men, actually just second to skin cancer and it's the second leading cause of cancer death in men in the United States. It's a pretty common disease and the good thing is, it's preventable," Dr. Ahmed Aly with Roswell Park told WBEN this morning.
This complete screening will consist of a PSA blood test, a meeting with a Roswell Park expert to have a chat about your family history, and then a digital rectal exam.
Registration is currently closed, but walk-ins are welcome. Those eligible to attend are:
- Men aged 45 – 70
- Men aged 40 – 70 who:
- Are African American
- Are Ashkenazi Jewish
- Have a familial BRCA mutation
- Have a familial history of prostate cancer
- Have been exposed to agent orange
Education tables and refreshments will be made available as well as some Buffalo Sabres alumni, "All men are encouraged to come in with their families, that are also welcome to come in as well." says Dr. Aly.
