The 5/14 Memorial Foundation announced this week the selection of a construction manager for the planned Living Memorial and Healing Center at Jefferson Avenue and Best Street, across from Johnny B. Wiley Stadium, which is close to the site of the May 14, 2022, mass shooting, that killed ten members of the East Side community.

The land has been secured and groundbreaking is planned for sometime this year.

The memorial is titled, "Seeing Us." Ten arches will surround the memorial in honor of the 10 lives lost. There will also be a survivors pillar and a reflective garden.

So far about $7 to $8 million dollars has been raised for the project.

The Reverend Mark Blue, Chairman of the 5/14 Memorial Commission and Foundation, told WBEN the goal is much higher.

"We are hoping to raise another $15 to $20 million, because we would like for this to be done one time;and to be maintained and taken care of forever."

Rev Blue says the memorial will benefit the community by being a place of solace, reflection and healing
