Buffalo, NY (WBEN) On with David Bellavia Wednesday morning, Erie County Sheriff John Garcia says he is not seeking the county executive's seat in next year's election.

Garcia says he's satisfied with being sheriff. "At the end of the day, I'm a cop," says Garcia. "There's a lot of work to do in the Sheriff's Office. As a cop, this is a dream job. I'm able to modernize the office where it belongs." He says he hopes whoever is next does a great job and thinks about the people of Erie County first, moving things forward.

Garcia says he was approached about being the running mate to Bruce Blakeman. "I interviewed for the lieutenant governor's position," says Blakeman. He notes he was out of town when Blakeman came to WNY, but he says he supports and endorses Blakeman in challenging Governor Hochul. "I hope he prevails, and when he comes to Erie Count again, I'll stand shoulder to shoulder again."

Mark Poloncarz will not seek re-election.
