Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has set April 30 as the date for the special election to fill the vacant seat left by Brian Higgins in NY-26. Higgins stepped down from his seat in Congress earlier this month to become the new President and CEO of Shea's.
"With Brian Higgins' departure from Congress, a special election to ensure representation for the 26th District will be held in April," said Gov. Hochul on Monday.
"From our days representing Western New York in Congress together to our partnership in the years since, I am grateful for Brian's service to our State and our country. I wish him all the best as he embarks on a new chapter of service, and look forward to working with his successor to improve the lives of New Yorkers.
New York State Sen. Tim Kennedy has already been announced as the Democratic nominee for the special election by the Erie County Democratic Committee.
