Buffalo, N.Y. - Saleh Mohamed, 28, of Cheektowaga, is arraigned in Buffalo City Court on June 2, 2026 after being accused of killing four people on June 1, 2026 in the City of Buffalo, as well as the Town of Cheektowaga.

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Saleh Mohamed, the alleged shooter that left four people dead in a murderous June 1 crime spree, will likely see his case presented to an Erie County grand jury.

And that may be happening sooner rather than later.

That means scheduled preliminary hearings - set for June 5 in both Buffalo City Court and Cheektowaga Town Court - may be waived and the case may shift to the grand jury, says Terry Connors, a prominent local defense attorney.

"In a case like this , given the magnitude of the alleged crime, the DA's office is not going to waste time getting a preliminary indictment," Connors said.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office declined to comment.

Mohamed, 29, is facing one count of murder in the second degree for allegedly shooting and killing Shukri Muthana, 43, a clerk at a Grant Street convenience store in Buffalo's Black Rock neighborhood. The incident took place around 2:30 p.m.

Approximately one hour later, at Mohamed's house at 43 Ellen Drive in Cheektowaga, he allegedly shot and killed his 26-year-old wife and sons - one of whom was 4-years-old and the other 3-years-old.

Mohamed was charged with one count of murder in the first degree and three counts of murder in the second degree.

"A grand jury indictment is part of the normal case of prosecution with a crime like this," Connors said.

Connors said the original indictment can be amended, if the district attorney's office desires.

All of the Buffalo and Cheektowaga charges are felonies and Mohamed - if convicted - could be facing life in prison with no chance for parole.

The investigation into the quadruple homicide continues by police departments in Buffalo and Cheektowaga.

Mohamed remains in the Erie County Holding Center without bail.
