North Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - Canal Fest continues on in Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, however there has been extreme heat as Niagara County dealt a heat advisory Wednesday. With any festival comes a lot of food. Vendors at Canal Fest have been trying to beat the heat.
"It's not too bad, honestly, as you think it is. You got a nice breeze," says Jeff from Joe's Delicious French Fries. "I've been doing restaurant working for a long time, so I'm used to the heat, but, you know, just kind of stay hydrated. Mostly Gatorade and water is a big thing. My boss always provides us with that, so it's a lot easier in that sense."
Some vendors have been working together to topple the temps. Jacob with Elks Lodge said that they have a trade system with some of the other vendors if they need water. One vendor has been beating the heat with plenty of water.
"I'm 70 years old. I can't afford to have any health problems with this heat. But I'll tell you this much, it beats the heck out of February when it's minus 10 degrees."
Neil from Joey's Fried Dough said that other vendors have lent a helping hand if someone is not feeling good.
"All the vendors here are very nice," Neil tells WBEN. "If we run out of water they'll give us extra water, ice, all the things...If one of your employees is going down, if they're not feeling good, they'll give you an extra employee to help you out."
Planning to come out to Canal Fest? Here's what vendors suggest you should have when you come.
"Bring your sunscreen and bring some cash, and we'll be able to serve you some great Italian sausage sandwiches, and we got lots of cold beverages. It's ice cold. If you get a warm beverage from me, I guarantee you your next one is free."
