How one Sabres' fan made his way to 'the belly of the beast'

AMHERST, N.Y. (WBEN) - From the moment that Trevor Feger and his two friends made their way to Sunday's Buffalo Sabres - Montreal Canadiens playoff game, they learned quickly about the passion Habs fans have for their team.

"We were booed everywhere," Feger, 34, said.


Of course when you are wearing a blue-and-gold Rasmus Dahlin jersey when you are standing in a sea of Montreal red and white jerseys, what can you expect.

Feger was one of a just a handful of Sabres' fans who made their trek to Montreal.

Booing and chirping aside, Feger had nothing but nice things to say about Habs' fans.

"They are some of the nicest people you'd want to meet and they are so knowledgeable and passionate about the Canadiens," Feger said.

Montreal is considered the gold standard for fan support across all four professional sports teams

Hockey isn't a sport in Montreal. It is a religion and a birth right.

"There's a reason why they call it the 'Cathedral of Hockey'," Feger said.

Feger and his friends, in an almost impromptu moment, decided to drive to Montreal and take their chances for buying tickets.

It turns out, buying tickets online was not hassle and the tickets were affordable, just $300 each in U.S. dollars.

The seats were in the Bell Centre's upper deck, section 311.

Last year, Feger went to Kansas City for the Chiefs-Bills AFC Championship game

Fans were passionate there but not on Montreal's level, Feger said.

"There is no better sports experience than sitting in the Bell Centre," Feger said,
