Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - An inmate at the Eric County Holding Center has been charged with 2nd degree assault and 2nd degree obstructing governmental administration after she assaulted a sheriff's deputy.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was serving food to 37-year-old Dominique Tabb on the morning of July 6th when Tabb punched the deputy in the face.
Tabb proceeded to continue the assault by kicking and punching the deputy while she was on the ground. Surveillance video of the incident shows two other guards rushing into Tabb's cell and tackling her. The deputy was taken to ECMC with a head injury and has been discharged.
The next day, July 7th, Tabb again attacked a deputy that was serving her food but was quickly detained.
Erie County Sheriff John Garcia wrote the following:
"This was nothing short of a sickening, unprovoked assault. These are the conditions the brave men and women of the Jail Management Division work in. They have my respect, appreciation and admiration."
"Unfortunately, the New York State Correction Law ties our hands. There is very little we can do when an Incarcerated Individual acts in this manner. There is simply little deterrent to this behavior. I ask our state representatives to take action to protect our jail deputies and correction officers."
