BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 36-foot-tall mural was unveiled Monday in Downtown Buffalo.

Many of Joyce's works are collected by the University at Buffalo's libraries. UB owns more than 10,000 pages of his working papers, notebooks, and manuscripts. They also own photographs, portraits, memorabilia, and more.

"A lot of people don't know it and a lot of people, even in Buffalo, don't know about it," Ciaran Madden, the Consul General of Ireland in New York, said. "To bring the mural down to downtown Buffalo, people will see it and realize what a treasure-trove there is on their doorstep. Hopefully it will prompt more curiosity in the collection in Joyce."

Madden said Joyce is seen as one of the greatest figures of modern literature. One of his most well-known works includes the novel Ulysses, which was written in the early 20th century.

The mural's unveiling comes two days before Bloomsday, an annual celebration of Joyce's work. Bloomsday is held every June 16 because that is the day in which Ulysses takes place.

You can find the mural at 181 Franklin Street in Buffalo.
