Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Boulevard Mall is changing hands once again.

Developer Douglas Jemal has agreed to sell the Boulevard Mall in Amherst to Benderson Development.

Jemal purchased the mall six years ago with the plan to turn the sprawling property into a "town center" with apartments and condos, offices, retail space and more. That project has struggled to get going, while mall tenants left as much of the property shut down.

Some of the property, including some of the mall's former anchors, had already been owned by Benderson.

"Benderson Development has been a part of all the discussions pretty much from the start," said Amherst Town Supervisor Brian Kulpa.

Kulpa did not have a timeline for when things will get moving, but said that the town is ready for it to happen and is in a position to help get the project to the next step.

"The issues we've run into with some of the ghost leases and legacy stuff has been pretty difficult to get through," said Kulpa. "In the next couple of weeks we'll have more conversations with Benderson Development. They're a wonderful investment partner in Amherst. The UB Annex was one that when they got control of it went very quickly, and our hope is that something similar will happen here."
