Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A jury has acquitted 27 year old Shane Casado of all charges in the death of his girlfriend Rachel Wierzbicki.
Casado was accused of fatally shooting Wierzbicki outside his Buffalo home in 2018.
Casado had been dating Wierzbicki for six months and says he was trying to break things off with her, saying she was violent and had made threats.
Prosecutors say Casado didn't take the threats seriously and called the shooting senseless violence and murder, plain and simple.
"I obviously thought from day one his story was ridiculous," says Erie County DA John Flynn. "I didn't believe he was justified in shooting her at all. With that said, I knew there were some issues with the case."
Casado was charged with manslaughter and murder.
