Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The labor community is calling for a boycott of Elmwood Taco & Subs, as workers there claim ETS owners have conducted a union-busting campaign in retaliation of unionizing efforts.
ETS employees claim owners have launched "an intense and illegal union-busting campaign" that includes, but is not limited to:
- Dramatically cutting workers' hours in retaliation for their union activity in an attempt to force them to quit;
- Demoting workers for exercising their legal right to strike;
- Wrongfully disciplining workers.
Workers have filed unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board, and are waiting on the board to issue a decision on the charges.
"No company, no matter the size, should be allowed to flagrantly break the law and get away with it. We have offered many olive branches to the owners and management of ETS, and they continue to union-bust," said Gary Bonadonna Jr., Manager of the Rochester Regional Joint Board of Workers United. "We want a collaborative relationship with ETS, and there is no reason that that can't happen."
The labor community says the boycott will end "as soon as the company agrees to stop fighting the union, settles the unfair labor practice charges, and bargains fairly with the workers."
Workers hope this will end very soon; they say they want to be able to support ETS as a business and serve their community as a proud union restaurant.
