Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) New York State Republican Party Chairman Nick Langworthy made it official Friday morning. He is running for Congress in the new 23rd Congressional district.
Langworthy released the announcement with a 90-second video message, calling himself, "a fighter who knows how to win."
"I will never stop fighting for our values, our rights and our community," said Langworthy. "Western New York and the Southern Tier deserves a conservative Republican Congressman who is tough enough to take the fight to Joe Biden and the radicals in Washington and get real results for our taxpayers."
Among issues Langworthy said he is taking on; 40-year high inflation, record gas prices, and second amendment rights, which he said are threatened.
Langworthy jumping into the race a week after Congressman Chris Jacobs decided not to run for the 23rd district seat following a backlash over his support for gun reforms.
The newly redrawn 23rd congressional district includes part of Erie County as well as southern tier counties.
Langworthy will appear on the primary ballot as a replacement for Chris Jacobs.
The party chairman is expected to face former Buffalo School Board member and gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino and Dr. Richard Moon, a Jamestown business owner, as primary candidates.
The Republican primary will be held Aug. 23. The filing deadline for primary candidates is June 10.
