BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Residents in zip codes that include Amherst, Clarence, Orchard Park, Lancaster, and other suburban towns in Erie County have received the most vaccines by percentage of population.

For example, in the 14068 zip code, which represents Amherst and Getzville, 27% of the population has received the vaccine.

In contrast, of the ten lowest performing zip codes, nine of them represent some section of the City of Buffalo. This includes the 14211 zip code (4%), several zip codes on the east side (6%), and the 14213 zip code (7%).

The 14070 zip code in the Town of Gowanda has the fewest percentage of population vaccinated at 2%.

"Basically, if you live in a wealthy suburb, you probably either have gotten the vaccine or you have a much better chance at getting the vaccine," Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said Tuesday.

Poloncarz used this rationale to explain why the Delavan Grider Community Center is important in the race to get vaccines to underserved communities and urged people who live in the ten zip codes who are eligible to sign up to get a vaccine that they should do so before 8 a.m. Wednesday because that's when all eligible Erie County residents can schedule an appointment.

The ten zip codes that can sign up before the rest of Erie County are: 14201, 14204, 14208, 14209, 14211, 14212, 14213, 14214, 14215, and 14222.

"There are approximately 7,000 open appointments from March 14 through March 23," Poloncarz said of availability when he looked early Tuesday afternoon.

To make an appointment, you can click here or you can call New York State's COVID-19 vaccine hotline at 1-833-697-4829.
