Life after Highmark for Turner Construction

Gilabe/Turner is nearly finished with building new Highmark Stadium

Jim Fink/WBEN

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - After more than three years of building new Highmark Stadium, Turner Construction - one of the lead construction managers for the $2.2 billion project - is already working on life after the stadium project ends sometime next year.

Gilbane/Turner has been leading the construction of Highmark Stadium - and life after the stadium is done has both firms very busy.

In fact, Turner's work load shows how a company needs to be diverse.

The stadium, by the way, is more than 98% finished and will be football and fan-ready this summer.

"We share the same passion as the (Bills') fans," said Steve Perrigo, Turner vice president.

Turner's work load includes working on the expansion of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, Kaleida Health's new micro hospital in Fredonia and the Station Twelve shopping center in Amherst.

And, there is Turner's bread-and-butter: Educational work.

Among the school districts working with Turner include: Niagara-Wheatfield, Orchard Park, Holland, Alden, Salamanca and Jamestown.

"It is really exciting to see all these projects," Perrigo said.

Turner has been in Buffalo since 1908.

Its past work includes the former Pierce-Arrow plant on Great Arrow Drive and the original Buffalo General Hospital.

"We've been here a long time and will be here for long time," Perrigo said.
