Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - Three Hikers were rescued from Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park after getting lost on the Eternal Flame Trail.

At around 3:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, dispatch received a call from an individual stating he was with two other hikers and had been lost for four hours. The caller also informed dispatch his phone had 2% battery-life remaining, and the other two did not have their phones on them.

A short time later, the phone died and the line disconnected mid-call.

With the use of RapidSOS, dispatch was able to gather the hikers' location and directed police to that area. When deputies arrived, they were able to locate the group and escorted them out.

"The teamwork demonstrated by our dispatch and patrol units this morning was exemplary," stated Erie County Sheriff John Garcia. "With time a factor, they worked quickly, efficiently, and diligently to assist these three individuals."

RAPIDSOS is a platform that allows dispatchers to pinpoint the longitude and latitude of a cell phone connected to their communications center. The location is then displayed on a map.

No injuries were reported.
