Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A Buffalo man is charged with murdering the father of his estranged wife during an incident last month. 39-year-old Mohammed Mia faces numerous additional counts, including burglary and aggravated criminal contempt.
Prosecutors say Mia unlawfully entered the home of his estranged wife, knowingly in violation of an order of protection with the intent to commit a crime, on Manhart Street in October. Prosecutors say Mia tried to kill her by slapping, punching and choking the victim, and threatened to kill the victim during the attack.
Mia is also accused of causing physical injuries to the victim's parents as they attempted to intervene. Mia is accused of punching and kicking the victim's father repeatedly after throwing him to the floor, and punching and slapping the victim's mother. When paramedics arrived, the victim's father was unconscious. 47-year-old Mohammed Hossain was taken to ECMC with severe head trauma, and died three days later. The victim and her mother were also taken to ECMC to be treated for cuts and bruises to their face and body as well as broken teeth.
Mia was taken into custody later that day after he allegedly went to the E-District police station to report that he had been attacked by the victims.
If convicted of all charges, Mia faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.
