Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The newly-appointed President and CEO of the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences, Gary Siddall on Tuesday announced major programming coming to the Buffalo Museum of Science in the days leading up to the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8.
"Not only have we been recognized here locally as a leader for our eclipse programming and expertise, but we've also been designated as a NASA Subject Matter Expert Site for the upcoming eclipse, that will be a unique designation for Erie County."
This means that NASA scientists and educators will be offering programming at the Museum from April 5-7 from 10 a.m. ET to 2 p.m. ET with NASA Subject Matter Experts offering presentations in the Museum’s auditorium on April 5 and 7 at 11:30 a.m. ET and 1 p.m. ET.
With support from M&T Bank, the Museum will also grant free museum admission to Buffalo Public School students with presentation of their school ID April 5-7.
NASA programming is not the only eclipse programming happening at the Buffalo Museum of Science. Their "Eclipse-a-palooza" programming will run from April 1 through April 7, with eclipse glasses available all week long while supplies last.
"We'll be putting on a series of really creative programs, we'll be looking at things like music, we'll be looking at things like heritage and, of course, we'll be celebrating the science of the eclipse," Siddall adds.
As this announcement came as Siddall's first press conference since his appointment as CEO of the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences and Tifft Nature Preserve, he announced that some construction will be coming soon for the Tifft Nature Preserve that will increase the accessibility of it for all.
"Last year, the society announced the handicap accessible trail project, which is a $1.9 million project that will create a .7 mile trail loop starting at the Visitor Center and looping out over the marsh and then back. This is going to be the first of its kind for the Western New York community. It will be the largest accessible trail in this community," said Siddall.
