Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - National Fuel says the house explosion Monday night in the Hamlet of Lake View was not caused by a gas leak or any other operational issue related to a gas line.

WBEN received the following statement from National Fuel on Wednesday regarding its investigation into the incident:

"With the assistance of the New York State Public Service Commission, National Fuel completed a thorough investigation of its natural gas delivery facilities serving 5834 West Lane in Lake View. No leaks or other operational issues were found. Gas service was restored to all customers in the neighborhood by Tuesday afternoon.

"National Fuel will continue to assist local authorities with the investigation as needed."

The house explosion just after 8:30 p.m. Monday caused the death of 78-year-old Joene Pease, while her 78-year-old husband John was rushed to Erie County Medical Center in critical condition. The house was a total loss, while another house adjacent to the property was also destroyed in a subsequent fire.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the explosion.
